If you're ready for anything, prepared for everything & surprised by nothing, then emergency nursing is for you!
Emergency nursing is a recognised specialty
(National Specialisation Framework for Nursing and Midwifery, 2006).
Emergency nursing involves working in a time-sensitive
environment with limited information and caring for patients who are
diagnostic dilemmas. At Westmead Emergency we specialise in nursing
medical, surgical, toxicologic and mental health emergencies, with
trauma and resuscitation being a crucial component of our work.
As registered or enrolled nurses you can apply for a position within the emergency nursing team. The initial 12 months are significant in a graduate nurse's career and personal development. At Westmead Emergency a specifically designed program is in place to support the graduate nurse in this diverse and dynamic clinical environment.
- We are a tertiary teaching hospital with a level 1 trauma centre.
- The ED has a team of dynamic and enthusiastic nurses, consultants & educators. Trainees are well supported and teamwork is our mantra.

We are committed to supporting nursing staff through a dynamic and structure professional development pathway. Opportunities also exist to complete a Graduate Certificate in Emergency Nursing and Masters in Critical Care (Emergency stream) affiliated with educational colleges and universities. We offer the entire gambit of educational programs in support of your professional development:
|New graduate program||Simulation training|
